Compare Curriculums

Compare Curriculums is a site that lets students compare the required reading and course descriptions at Ivy League or other prominent or well known universities. It is also useful for self-learners who want to see what is taught at expensive universities so they can teach themselves the same material.

In August 2008, Compare Curriculums was featured on Slashdot, resulting in over 30,000 hits in the first 2 days. Hundreds of hits per day continued for many weeks after.

I hired my friend Sergey to do the graphic design, and the markup was a cooperative effort. As you can see, it looks stunning. If you need any graphic design I highly recommend using Prezrok Designs (Sergey's business site).

SCC Transfer Center

This is the website for the Sacramento City College Transfer Center.

Like Find It Get It, the SCC Transfer Center is heavily customizable by the administrator and their staff. Every page is programmatically generated from content created with an in-browser WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor.

In other words, Transfer Center staff are able to simply click a few buttons to create tables, lists, paragraphs with embedded images, and so on. A few "plug-in" components were provided because they required programming skills, but staff are still able to rearrange those components and add and remove them at will.

Find It Get It

A highly complex classfied advertising site, similar but superior to the well known Craigslist.

The existing FindItGetIt website is heavily customized by the administrator. The engine makes it possible to add an arbitrary number of categories and subcategories, an arbitrary number of locations and sublocations, and an arbitrary number of fields which may be dropdown lists, checkboxes, radio buttons, long and short text fields, and so on.

All of this is done through a simple, easy to use administrator interface that uses extensive, high quality JavaScript using modern techniques. JavaScript provides the ability to make extensive changes without reloading pages, and then all changes are submitted simultaneously to a PHP back end. When the administrator returns to make further changes, all fields and options retain the same interactivity they had when they were generated by JavaScript. This represents seamless integration between the two.

Dovia Sacramento
